Having begun her musical studies at the age of four, Tanya has been surrounded by music since her early childhood. Growing up in a household filled with Ukrainian and Greek traditions, she fondly remembers early memories of her grandfather playing mandolin in the home and on stage. Two Guitars and Bublitchki were standard repertoire around the family home.Being raised in such an environment, Tanya naturally takes to music and initially works at the piano. During this time, she wins 1st prize at many piano competitions. After a short time, she switches to the violin which will become her main voice from then on.
Her performances of classical works and her arrangements represent years of musical training. Tanya holds a Masters degree in violin performance from the United-States along with a viola performance degree from Canada. Through the years, she has had the opportunity of playing in violin masterclasses for such great violinists as Oleh Krysa, Lynn Chang, Bayla Keyes, Gregory Fulkerson, Blanka Berdnarz, Nathan Giem, Jonathan Carney, Yehonathan Berrick, Joan Milkson, Corey Smith and Amy Barlowe. Moreover, her extensive traveling through Eastern Europe, her musical fieldwork experience in Romania (2009), her keen interest in ethnomusicology and the constant quest for the authentic sound, along with her various mentors in the tradition (ranging from gypsy, to Balkan and klezmer) can all be depicted in her performances.
Throughout her career, Tanya has performed solo, in duet formation with piano and in groups such as the gypsy group Paradox-Bathalo led by Cirque du Soleil Romanian violinist Carmen Piculeata. Moreover, Tanya has had the opportunity to perform classicaly on such stages as the E.J. Thomas Hall in Akron, Ohio (USA), the Civic Theater in Akron, Ohio (USA), the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia (USA), the Oscar Peterson Hall and Place-Des-Arts in Montreal (Canada). In 2011, Tanya had the opportunity to perform on many occasions on a Sharon Que violin, an instrument of value on loan from a private collector.
Having won many international competitions, Tanya performed solo at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2016. More recently, Tanya's passion for Romanian violin music has captured the attention of scholars worldwide when she presented her doctoral research at the 2019 International Musicological Society conference at the National University of Music in Bucharest, Romania.
Living as comfortably on the classical stage as well as at folk events, Tanya demonstrates extreme versatility in the performance of both repertoires. This artist has long been inspired by artists in both realms such as David Oistrakh and Roby Lakatos.
Tanya's music is a reflection of her fragmented identity and the true definition of her artistic vision. Her skills rooted and perfected in the classical tradition, her identity based in Eastern-European music, and her distinct flair rooted in the Romani savoir-faire.
A driven classical violinist with a drive to create a personal sound..
